Dix remarques sur la sculpture de Pascal Jounier Trémelo

Jean-Marc Huitorel, 2019

Using plaster, cement and concrete as his materials, Pascal Jounier Trémelo injects a certain degree of randomness and accident in his work process. While the casting of a work of art traditionally requires great mastery and painstaking care, the artist has chosen an opposite form of excellence.
Freeing himself from the restrictions and predeterminations usually involved in the manipulation of these materials, the artist does not seek to subject them to his will, focusing instead on their entropic quality by letting them settle at their own pace. While a work of art is usually considered solid and resistant, Pascal Jounier Trémelo enhances the misshapenness and pliability of a flexible material as it reacts to temperature and humidity. Neither solid nor fluid, matter stiffens like volcanic magma, thus capturing the organic and living aspect of the substance.
