The last days of a summer residency in Heerlen, Netherlands were spent picking the blackberries that grew abundantly in the neighborhood and using them to make blackberry jam. I tried to sell my Confiture de Nuit (Night Jam) on the pedestrian open-air mall, next door to a fast-food giant. Each jar featured a free asemic poem by the Dutch poet Roy Voragen, whom I’d met during my stay.
