La chambre de la reine
NOTHING AT ALL - MODES IDIORYTHMIQUES DE LA COEXISTENCE Exhibition by David Ryan and Jerôme Joy at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2016.
THE QUEEN’S CHAMBER
From her windows, she sees the Crystal Palace
“The chamber is immersive. We are surrounded by a herbal, gathered by female voices, the adolescents and children who have welcomed the Clover Hunter as he gathered his clovers and herbs.”
The Queen’s Chamber is a living space with rudimentary furniture. In a video, The Quality of Forgiveness, the two artists intend to recover a sensitivity, while avoiding today’s mass reproduction of images, as well as the insensibility with which they are seen. The “woman with the star-flower coat” seems to want to transcend suffering and anger through tenderness, and to affirm her desire to live according to her own choices.
The herbal symbolises this idea of sharing and encounting. “It is the fruit of the Clover Hunter’s travels among the inhabitants of the island.” A voice emerges from this “cohort of gleaners”. It belongs to Clémence, the female presence who inhabits the chamber. She reads Michael’s Tale. Written by Jérôme Joy, it is an extension of the Clover Hunter’s existence. Here, it takes the form of silent thought.
